How to improve your life by finding joy
I was hanging out some washing this morning and I turned around to see five very cute little furry faces looking at me and I felt complete joy! Gosh I love those guys!
These faces belong to a mob of Red Necked Wallabies. Their name (which sounds a bit dodgy!) comes from the reddish colouring they have around the back of their necks. They are completely wild and are free to hop in and out as they please.
We’re so very lucky to live in an area that has specifically catered to these guys, along with other wildlife such as echidnas, brushtail possums, ringtail possums, and even the occasional lace monitor, with lots of forest for them to live and hide in.
So… back to joy!
While listening to a bunch of episodes of a fellow healer’s podcast over the last few days, I picked up from her that she’s a strong advocate for finding joy in every way that you can in order to live a happy and healthy life. This really resonated with me.
If you’re able to find joy in everything you do, the Universe creates more circumstances for you to experience these feelings again and again and again. It’s just like gratitude. If you feel grateful for something, you will receive more things to feel grateful for. That’s just how it works!
So today I would like to ask you, “What brings you joy?”. “What makes your heart sing?”
I remember back to when I was being mentored by my friend Doug, when we were discussing my job at the time. I hated it! Doug explained to me that I needed to find joy in what I was doing in order to create what I want, and this didn’t feel easy to me, given how I actually felt about that job!
But… I did as he suggested, and I spent a few minutes every morning, looking for all of the things I loved about that job – the aspects that brought me joy! It was difficult at first, but over time a really unexpected thing happened.
It was like my team had gone through a personality transformation or something, because all of a sudden they weren’t arguing with each other anymore, they were going above and beyond in their jobs, and even better, my days weren’t spent being a referee in a boxing match, so to speak!
Shortly after that I was offered another position and was able to move on, but I absolutely attribute the shift to my search for joy!
Here’s something you can do
What if you could find joy in every situation you encountered today?
That’s something you can try today. No matter the situation, good or bad, it’s up to you to find joy in that moment.
Another thing you can do is work out what brings you joy, and just do more of that! Do it as often as you can and get yourself into that joyful place!
If you’re able to find the joy in everything you do, every day for a week, take note of how much has changed or improved in your life – you might be surprised!
