The one that got away
Hello, lovelies! Today, we’re diving into a funny yet insightful date story shared by a woman in her forties. This tale offers a blend of amusement and valuable lessons for anyone navigating the world of online dating.
The story
A woman in her 40’s matched with a man a few years older than her. His pictures looked decent, and although his bio wasn’t particularly captivating, it wasn’t off-putting either. So she decided to give him a chance. Their text conversations were okay, but he quickly delved into discussions about signs and destiny, which raised an initial red flag, given they’d not even met yet.
He had recently broken up with someone he thought was “the one” and believed the universe had led him to this new match.
As their conversation progressed, his intensity grew, and she realised the universe was indeed giving her a sign – that he was definitely NOT the one for her. To resolve the situation quickly, she suggested meeting at a bar nearby within 15 minutes. Smartly, she prioritised her safety by arranging to meet in a public place rather than having him pick her up.
When he arrived, she was taken aback. He looked significantly different from his profile photos, easily 50 kilos heavier.
A crucial reminder…
I’m going to interrupt this story to advise that you always use realistic and current photos in your online dating profile. Glamour shots might impress initially, but setting an expectation that you can’t meet in person is a recipe for disappointment – unless you do yourself up for glamour shots every day, of course!
Authenticity is key – let them see the real you.
Back to the story!
Despite her disappointment, she didn’t want to seem shallow and agreed to go for a drink. Once inside, she let him know that the universe was telling her they weren’t meant to be.
Surprisingly, he accepted this but then spent the next two hours crying about his ex, “the one that got away.” She found herself offering comfort and even helped him craft a text to his ex, who promptly responded, setting up a date for that weekend.
By the end of the night, he believed the universe had brought her into his life to help him reunite with his ex! [Insert facepalm here!]
