Lesson 7 – I see only the past
Lesson 6 for many people is difficult, because there are horrible things that happen in this world, and that lesson is kind of telling us it isn’t there. What the?
But bear with us here… this will all come together as we work through each lesson!
Today’s lesson is “I see only the past”. In other words, everything we “see” and apply meaning to, is based on what we know from the past.
Here’s what A Course In Miracles has to say about it:
“It is the reason why nothing you see means anything.
It is the reason why you have given everything you see all of the meaning it has for you.
It is the reason why you do not understand anything you see.
It is the reason why your thoughts do not mean anything, and why they are like the things you see.
It is the reason why you are never upset for the reason you think.
It is the reason why you are upset because you see something that is not there.
Let me try to explain this for you…
If you look at a cup, are you actually seeing a cup or are you reviewing your past experiences of picking up a cup, being thirsty, drinking from a cup etc?
This gives you something to think about huh?
Today’s exercise
Look around you, and acknowledge this idea by applying this process to everything you see:
I see only the past in this pencil.
I see only the past in this shoe.
I see only the past in this cat.
I see only the past in this hand.
I see only the past in that face.
I could go on all day, but you get it right? Spend a minute or so applying this phrase to all that’s around you and understand that the only reason you believe something you’re seeing is what you believe it is, is because it is something you’ve learned about it in the past!
I shall leave this one with you! 😀
