Lesson 6: Seeing something that’s not there
Today’s A Course In Miracles lesson follows on from the previous lessons, with a slight twist. Yesterday we were feeling an emotion for a reason other than what we think. Today we’re feeling emotions because we’re seeing something that’s not there, which is kind of the same thing I guess… Ooooh boy!
Here’s what A Course In Miracles gives us to repeat to ourselves a few times today
- I am angry at ___ because I see something that is not there.
- I am worried about ___ because I see something that is not there.
Pam again offers her insight into this lesson, referring to the so-called “bad guys” or “evils” out in the world. She states that just like movies aren’t real, neither are those upsets she sees, which are nothing but holograms that will radically change when she trains her mind to see them differently.
So what does this mean?
What Pam is trying to say is that we are constantly seeing things that aren’t there – they’ve been made up.
Alright, so here’s my interpretation of this… If we’re angry at something, then we’re focused on something in the past. If it’s in the past, it no longer exists right now. In our present. Right?
If we’re worried about something, I am thinking we’re focused on something that may or may not happen in the future – again this is a possible event in the future we’re focused on, so it’s yet to exist.
Also, we’re choosing to see something that’s worth being angry, worried, sad about etc, and that’s our perception, which means that again we’ve made this our reality based on that perception. Shift our perception and the reality automatically shifts too.
What’s the final message here?
I think the final message here is to stay present and to train your mind to see situations differently.
If you’re angry about a past event or worried about a potential future event, you’re not focused on the present, and neither of the things you’re thinking about even exist right this second. One is already done, and the other hasn’t even happened!
Also, like I’ve mentioned in my posts about the previous lessons, we apply meaning to a situation, meaning that we literally make things up. If we choose a different meaning, we experience a different reality.
PHEW!
