Is a situation really as bad as you think it is?
It is just after 1.30am as I write this, and because I was nudged to do so, I decided to pick up two books:
- A Course in Miracles; and
- The Course in Miracles Experiment – A Starter Kit For Rewiring Your Mind
The first book is the original material, which was written several decades ago. The second book interprets the first!
When I picked up A Course in Miracles, I couldn’t really understand what the author was trying to say, but after reading A Course in Miracles Experiment, it all made sense!
So today I’ve started at the beginning – Lesson 1: Nothing I see in this room (on this street, from this window, in this place) means anything. Or, as Pam Grout would like to say: “New sh*t has come to light”!
What this lesson is telling us is that nothing means anything unless we apply a meaning to it.
For example, if you’re looking at a situation and saying “This situation is bad”, that’s you applying your meaning to that situation. You are choosing a perspective that’s bad. Somebody else may perceive the situation in a completely different way.
Let’s say you applied for a job and didn’t get it. From your perspective, the situation is bad. But the other person who was offered that job, is jumping for joy!
Take a look at the situation now. Could you look at it from a different perspective and see things in a completely different way? Whatever meaning you apply to this situation is completely made up by you! You get to choose whether it’s a “positive” or “negative” thing. The situation itself has no meaning whatsoever!
If you’re anything like I was, it may take a bit of time to get your head around this, and I hope to share the nuggets of these lessons with you as I read each one, as the more I read, the more I understand.
Take care and have a wonderful day! xxx
